Instructions
- Combine:
- Dump the base chili ingredients (and the optional heat additions, if using) all into a crockpot.
- Cook low and slow:
- Cook for as long as possible at as low a temperature as possible.
- Low for 6+ hours is ideal, but High for 2 hours would work in a pinch.
- Cooked on High for 1 hour without beans, it's… OK.
- Optional steak addition (for a "fancy" chili):
- Cut steak into 1/2-inch or smaller cubes.
- Cook steak, using oil, in small batches, and add to the pot.
- Add the adobo sauce for a spicier chili — just a small spoonful goes a long, long way.
Notes:
* Red kidney beans: can be left out if you don't like beans — since there's no other liquid and no beans, the net effect on consistency is about the same.
** French onion soup: can be pureed in a blender first if you don't like chunks of onion.
